SonuPDF for Chrome
Chrome Extension Privacy Policy
Effective and last updated: October 26, 2026
Your local PDF tasks stay on your device
The extension processes selected files locally. It stores tool preferences and temporary import links, not your documents. Website tools and remote PDF imports are separate, explicit actions.
1. Scope
This policy applies to version 1.0.0 of the SonuPDF Chrome extension, provided by SonuPDF. It describes the extension separately from the SonuPDF website and the Chrome Web Store.
The extension helps you process PDFs locally and open related tools on SonuPDF.com. Local tools require no account. The extension does not collect browsing history, run analytics, sell personal data or upload your selected documents to SonuPDF or third parties.
2. Documents and generated files
Files you select, their filenames, document contents and generated results are handled in memory in the extension workspace tab. Local PDF processing takes place on your device. These documents are not saved in extension storage or sent to a server by the extension.
Clearing files releases the workspace references to those files. Closing or reloading the workspace tab ends that in-memory workspace. Files you explicitly download remain on your device until you delete them. Browser memory management is not a guarantee of secure erasure.
3. Preferences and temporary import links
Chrome local extension storage holds the IDs of your favorite and recently opened tools. These preferences stay in your browser until cleared or the extension is uninstalled. They are not synced through Chrome Sync by this extension. Document names and contents are not stored there.
When you invoke a PDF-link import, its source URL is temporarily placed in Chrome session storage so the workspace can receive it. URLs can contain query parameters or access tokens. The entry is removed when the workspace reads it. Unused entries become invalid after ten minutes and are deleted on a subsequent import; Chrome also clears this storage when the browser session ends. Source URLs are not sent to SonuPDF.
4. Importing a PDF from a website
A remote import starts only after you click Allow & import PDF. Chrome requests optional access to the source website. The extension then requests the PDF directly from that website, without sending login cookies or other browser credentials and without following redirects.
The source website receives the request and ordinary connection information, such as your IP address and the requested URL, under its own privacy practices. The imported PDF is processed locally. If access fails or sign-in is required, you can download the PDF yourself and select it in the workspace.
Chrome may retain granted website permissions until you revoke them. They are not a permission for the extension to monitor your browsing.
5. Why the extension requests permissions
- storage: saves tool preferences and temporary PDF import URLs as described above.
- activeTab: reads the active tab URL when you invoke the popup, to identify URLs ending in .pdf. It does not continuously monitor your tabs.
- contextMenus: adds right-click actions for PDF links and PDF pages.
- Optional HTTP/HTTPS website access: allows a PDF to be downloaded from the source website you choose, after a user-initiated permission request. The extension does not request access to all websites at installation.
6. SonuPDF website links and third parties
Tools labeled Opens website open SonuPDF.com in a new tab. Select your file on that website; the extension does not automatically transfer the current document. Website processing and analytics are governed by the website privacy policy, not by the local-processing description in this policy.
Links to SonuPDF can include static campaign labels (UTM parameters) to identify extension referrals. These labels do not contain document contents, filenames or source PDF URLs. Visiting SonuPDF, including this policy page, is subject to the website privacy policy.
Chrome installation, permission prompts, browser services and Chrome Web Store interactions are governed by Google’s applicable policies. The extension bundles its processing libraries and does not download executable code from a remote server.
7. Your controls
- Clear recent tools in the popup, or open Help & privacy and choose Clear favorites & recent tools.
- Choose Remove import permissions in Help & privacy, or manage site access in Chrome’s extension settings.
- Clear selected files or close the workspace tab when finished. Delete downloaded files separately if you no longer need them.
- Uninstall SonuPDF from Chrome to remove the extension and its stored preferences.
8. Limited use and policy changes
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data accessed by the extension is used only for its disclosed PDF features and preferences, not for advertising, sale or unrelated profiling.
We will update this policy if the extension’s data practices change. Material changes to how the extension accesses, stores or shares user data will also be disclosed prominently in the extension before the changed practices take effect.
